I'm Esmeralda, author of Science is So Sexy, a blog made for YOU!!!!
Who am I?
I'm originally from Belgium where I grew up in a very science-orientated family. My dad is a vet and he was himself influenced by his upbringing in a village farm!! I went to Uni in Louvain-La-Neuve where I got a degree in Chemistry and a MSc in Natural Sciences.
I then decided it was about time to live one of my dreams and left for the Big city, London! Here I achieved a PhD in Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the very friendly King's College London studying the biology of prion protein responsible for, notably, mad cow's disease! Since then, I have 2 postdocs under my belt: one working on ARSACS, another neurodegenerative disease, and the second one on the development of biomarker for cancer diagnostic.
I speak French, a little bit of Flemish and Spanish, and of course English!
I love cooking, baking, making chocolates pralines or any dessert with Belgian chocolates...
Reading crap books and watching Hollyoaks are my best weapons for relaxation!
And I am a very keen dancer and singer!!
